Just spent a lovely couple days at Dubtrain. Got a lot more done than we thought we would. Highlights: Getting to record with most of us in the room all together at one time, listening to Sgt. Pepper songs, and recording a cat meow in just the right place. Lowlights: Watching the Packers lose during a dinner break yesterday, and the fact that Pete won't let us live at the studio.

A haiku in praise of Dubtrain
Dubtrain is the place
Sound enlightenment takes place.
What else rhymes with place?
This is why I don't write lyrics very often.
If only there were a musical instrument that rhymed with "place."

Evidently, Pete has gotten to know you-all very well in a short span of time.
For the record, I've known each member of "Awesome" for an average of 6.85 years.
But they still can't live here...
Yeah, but Rob totally throws the curve, doesn't he? It would be more accurate to look at the median number of years, wouldn't it?
Well, sure, but Rob throws the curve on just about everything. The math geek in me is compelled to point out that the median number of years would be more like something like 16.5, which is actually far more misleading than my average number of years.
Did you know that 65% of all statistics are wrong?

I _think_ that when you calculate the median, you drop both the highest and lowest numbers on either end, so that the "Robs" don't throw things off. Anyone out there remember their elementary school maths?
I, of course, would never actually consider dropping Rob.
I think we're confusing "mid-range" with "median". To find the median, order your set from lowest to highest and take the value of the element that's in the middle of the set. (Or if it's an even number of elements, you average the middle two items.) The "trimmed median" is when you drop the highest and lowest. But as you see it almost never matters; the middle item will still be the middle item.
The mid-range is the number halfway between the highest and lowest number.
So the median number of years that Pete's known us is probably 4.
P.S. I don't actually know anything about math myself. I can't even count past twentyleven. But I share an office with a math professor named Jim. He's a helpful guy.

Who doesn't? But I think you'll agree that the relative size of the trimmed median is less important than the frequency of the modal value.
