Wouldn't have been for farmland before the 50s (when the Grand Coulee dam began being used to provide irrigation). Maybe the Indians charged more in WA? My guess is lumber or the fact that folks had been finding gold in Alaska to the North and Cali to the south before that. Doesn't explain the cheap land in Oregon, but what do I look like, Wikifreakingpedia?
